Thematic Advisor for Peace building
PMU is seeking an experienced and committed Global Advisor for Peace Building.
PMU is a faith- and rights-based organization, a dynamic, grassroots-based organization within the Swedish Pentecostal movement, aimed at creating creative environments for learning and development. PMU supports local partner organizations in about 25 countries. PMU has programs with important peace building components in contexts such as DR Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Palestine, South Sudan, Ukraine and Yemen.
The role leads key components of PMU’s global peace building efforts, overseeing implementation, capacity strengthening, monitoring, reporting, and policy development. As a thematic advisor you are responsible for internal learning within peace building, and development of methods and relevant material. As such, the thematic advisor provides thematic advice across PMU and to our partners, engages in partner dialogues and project appraisals, represents PMU in internal and external forums, supports advocacy efforts, collaborates on communication, and maintains program documentation.
The role also includes coordinating a network of consulting trauma advisors who contribute to peace building.
Qualifications
Applicants should have:
- Relevant academic education informing expertise in peace building
- Documented experience in peace building
- Documented experience of workshop facilitation and leading of change processes
- Experience in inclusion of women and youth in peace building
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong administrative skills
- Ability for strategic thinking
- Excellent networking skills
- A structured and meticulous working style
- Strong ability to manage intercultural relationships
- Ability to reflect on peace building from a theological perspective
- Knowledge of faith-based actors or churches (including Pentecostal churches), or experience working within popular movements
- Excellent command of English both spoken and written
- Willingness and ability to travel in Africa and globally
- French speaking abilities is considered a considerable merit
Additional Information
- The position can be in either Nairobi, Kenya or in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, depending applicant’s profile and on the best fit for PMU.
- The position will be placed in a smaller field office in either Nairobi or Addis Abeba, but relating to colleagues within PMU internationally, mainly in Sweden.
- The position is full-time (100%) and will be for the duration of a funded program which ends December 2028. Possibility for extension may be discussed.
- Applicants must have a valid work permit in Kenya or in Ethiopia.
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally regularly.
- Start date: August 2026 or as agreed.
